Four years after its establishment, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is now officially legit, with elected officials instead of just a personal Rabi fan club! The RSP faces tons of challenges ahead, but with Rabi's strength and PM Balen's speeding on the expressway, it might be the only party to lead this country for decades to come.
Everyone is watching RSP closely. Our old school corrupt netas and their jholeys, want the RSP to break into factions like theirs so that there will be more mili-juli coalition governments in the future for their own personal gain.
Our old mainstream extortionist media wallahs are looking for some shady stories of top RSP officials so that they can turn the tide against the RSP wave in the country. All those who have milked the system in the past two decades do not want RSP to succeed because if it does, then it's the endgame for the looters. No more tax evasion. No more extortion. No more commissions. No more public land grabbing. No more Free Lunch!
RSP's General Convention has ended. The elections for the Central Committee and top leadership positions are over. The results are out. The elected officials have taken their oath. Well, the top ones have while the newly elected CC members will do theirs in Kathmandu.
The media and the other jholeys are making a big deal about the convention. It was scheduled for three days but had to be extended for six because of delegate disputes and delays in voting and other minor issues. Give them a break. It's their first convention, and hopefully they will manage it better in future ones.
The man behind RSP, Rabi brother has been re-elected unopposed as the party chairperson. Dr. Swarnim Wagle was elected unopposed as Vice-Chair, while Sobita Gautam was elected as the Female Vice-Chair. One Vice-Chair position, to be nominated by the Chairperson, remains to be filled.
Bipin Acharya has been elected as General Secretary, while there is a provision for another General Secretary to be nominated by the chairperson. Asim Shah and Hari Dhakal were elected as the two Joint General Secretaries (Open category). Nisha Dangi was elected as the Female Joint General Secretary, while two additional Joint General Secretaries will be nominated by the Chairperson. Similarly, the Chairperson will also nominate the Treasurer, two Joint Treasurers, the Spokesperson, and three Joint Spokespersons.
I think the chairperson has too much work nominating here and there. This 'nomination' power has to stop in RSP or in any party. Let the candidates battle it out in all positions instead of always making sure that whoever is a chairperson has the majority in top leadership positions, using the 'nomination' power.
And maybe the RSP can hold its future conventions during winter instead of the garmi-monsoon combo in June. I understand it had to be Chitwan, but maybe, a week-long jamboree with safari trips, Bingo games and picnics during the winter would have made it fun and worthwhile, maybe.
